Which rookie do you prefer?

This is the third year we have had a Rookie Draft prior to our Regular Draft. In the MVFFL, the rookie you select is yours for the year (unless he is traded for someone else's rookie). He has his own roster spot, so you are not missing out on another player by having him. The most significant aspect of the rookie is the option you have of keeping him his second year in the league as a one-year player. For instance, this year the Carpetbaggers are keeping their rookie selection of a year ago, Joseph Addai, as a rookie, so Al will not be drafting a rookie this year. The only downfall to this is that, Addai will be back in the regular draft next year. The Clabberbones on the other hand, chose to keep Reggie Bush as a regular keeper to ensure the option of keeping him for several years. With all this in mind, this year's Rookie Draft has loads of potential keepers. Here's a quick look at the guys likely to be taken with the first three picks.

WR Calvin Johnson (Det)
Everyone knows about Johnson and his freakish skills. He's a big, athletic, sure-handed receiver who steps into an offense that has made many guys with half his skills good fantasy footballers (see Mike Furrey, Az Hakim). The only downside for Johnson is that the offense he's in isn't exactly Tecmo-esque. It may take him several weeks of 2 catches for 26 yards to fully grasp what all is going on with Mike Martz calling the shots. Having said that, think about how good he'll be by the fantasy playoffs and next year.

RB Adrian Peterson (Minn)
There are two problems with Peterson-not including his history of injuries. One is Chester Taylor. The Vikings other RB had a good season last year and is a more than capable back. You'd be silly to think that this isn't a rotation/by-committee situation. The other problem is his QB. Who is it? Tarvarararis Jackson? Brooks Bollinger? I'll bet four of our owners in this league are as capable as those guys. Unless Jackson is better than I think, Peterson will be looking at about nine guys in the box. But, we all saw what he did his first year at OU. He's obviously capable of making quite a splash.

RB Marshawn Lynch (Buf)
Lynch is being hyped as the #1 rookie to get in fantasy football this year. That seems odd to me. When did J.P. Losman become Carson Palmer? I don't care how well he did in weeks 14-17 last year, he's still J.P. Losman. He ain't striking fear in opposing secondaries. Lynch will have the same problem Peterson will with a bad QB. Plus, his head coach is still in love with Anthony Thomas, so he'll lose some TDs to him. That said, he will be the starter in Buffalo and will have every opportunity to prove he was worth the hype.
