Week 8 recap

Happy Halloween! I hope you are all enjoying your earnings from my last entry. You're welcome. Sorry for the late posting of the recap, but I had to close the pool for the winter. I didn't think I needed to wait until November to put the cover on. At any rate, here's the rundown...

Wild Hogs 72, Benchpressers 69
The Chargers D & Braylon Edwards brought home the bacon as the Hogs moved to .500 on the season. Wes got a nice game out of Hines Ward, but it wasn't quite enough to pull the upset.

Creamers 117, Owls 37
TQ spent his Monday shopping for fantasy baseball magazines after Pietsch got monster games from Antonio Gates & Reggie Wayne. As if that wasn't enough, Brett Favre & Greg Jennings combined for 34 more points Monday night (not to mention the game-winner against the Broncos). The thing is this-some years it's just that way in fantasy sports. The crazy thing is that TQ made a great trade in acquiring Jason Witten for Travis Henry. And I thought he had a good draft. Oh well, better days lie ahead for the Owls.

Buffet Boys 126, Carpetbaggers 112
This game packed some punch & lived up to the hype of game of the week. Tom Brady's numbers are sick. He, Marques Colston, Jeff King (who?) & the Lions D led the way for Hoffman. Al got big games from Drew Brees (don't sleep on the Saints folks) & Joseph Addai, but played the wrong D.

De-Pressers 64, Pietschskins 57
Talk about crazy. Brandon Marshall finished 6 yards short of me looking like I know what I'm doing making these predictions on here. Six more yards and this game's a tie. Wow. Oh yea, sorry if you took the over.

Double Down 71, Rampage 61
Daniels got 35 points from the Patriots D and that was basically it as Milt looks to get his first W against the Puffins.

This snoozefest doesn't deserve a writeup-both teams are now .500.

Week 8 predictions

Remember when Pietsch did his "bet on it" blog entry. Here is my 3-team parlay for week 8---Raiders (+7.5), Saints (-2.5) & Patriots (-16). I'm not sure why I posted that, but there you go. Onto the real picks...

Benchpressers @ Wild Hogs
Wes is 1-6 & has lost his last four games. That is hard for me to digest, because let's face it, our league needs Wes. It's just not as fun without him being one of the top two or three teams. Anyhoo, I think Wes is cursed. The Curse of Adrian Peterson. Wes took Brandon Jackson over AP with the third pick in the rookie draft. That may go down as the Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan pick of the MVFFL Rookie Draft. As for his game this week, I think that Randy stays hot and rides a big game from the Chargers D and Braylon Edwards in moving to .500 on the season.
Hogs 81, Pressers 76

Creamers @ Owls
Both of these teams have lost two in a row, but look for Pietsch to snap his skid as he welcomes Antonio Gates & Brett Favre back from their byes. I like a big game from Joe Jurevicius forTQ, but not enough help to take down the Creamers.

Buffet Boys @ Carpetbaggers
Here's your game of the week. These two teams are a combined 11-3. Hoffman's won four in a row. He was also the guy who snagged Adrian Peterson after Wes passed on him. Coincidence? I don't think so. For Al, he got some help at WR this week by trading RB Kevin Jones for Santonio Holmes. This will help is receiving corps, but having Anquan Boldin on his bye week won't. I think though that Tom Brady has to cool off sometime and the weather in New England Sunday isn't looking good. I'm taking Al in a close one.

De-Pressers @ Pietschskins
If the Cowboys weren't on a bye this week, I would call this the game of the week. Unfortunately for Troy, he's without the services of Tony Romo and Terrell Owens. Brian Griese played well last week and the Skins depth at WR makes Owens' bye week less painful. The over/under has been set at 205 for this game and I'm taking the over. I'm also taking the easy way out by predicting a tie.

My heart tells me it's not over, but my brain tells me otherwise. Or am I just listening too much to the media? The media wears me out. (no offense Fagan) Actually, I think the Rockies win at least two in Colorado, but have to win all three to have a chance, because they ain't winning games 6 and 7 in Boston.

Who will win first, the Rams or the Rampage? I'm gonna predict the Rampage, but not this week. I like the Browns and the Double Down.

If you would have looked at the "preview" of this week 8 game before the season started you'd think that this game would be the game of the week and that both teams would be 5-2 or 6-1. Instead the two teams are a combined .500 and, aside from LT's week 6 outburst, their star RBs have been a major disappointment. Maybe this is the week that one of these teams starts to turn the corner. A win here could be the start of something good...I hope it's me, but I'm still not sold on Philip Rivers. Maybe if he'd add a second L there he'd be better.

Week 7 recap

I'll bet the '72 Dolphins are getting a little nervous about the '07 Patriots. Look, I don't like the Patriots either, but they are good. Tom Brady is real good. In another league I'm in he's scored a combined 92 points the last two weeks. That's a league where 100 points usually means you win. My mouth is healing, but getting wisdom teeth removed isn't much fun. Here's the week 7 rundown...

Carpetbaggers 68, Benchpressers 47

This one didn't do anything to help Al's coach's rating, considering he had Kenny Watson (28 pts), the Titans D (27 pts) & Big Ben (26 pts) on his bench. However, the 68 points he scored with his active guys were enough to move him to 5-2. The Pressers now sit at 1-6 on the season.

Wild Hogs 101, Creamers 67

Don't say I didn't warn you. The Hogs have chowed down another victim in moving themselves into playoff contenders. The Seahawks D and Chad Pennington did the most damage for Randy, who moves to 3-4. The Creamers fall to 4-3.

Buffet Boys 96, Burrowing Owls 54

Hoffman rode another monster effort from Tom Brady to the W. TQ got nice games from his TE, K & D, but his QB, RBs & WRs forgot to score. The Witten trade is still looking pretty good. Records- Boys are 6-1, Owls 1-6.

Pietschskins 106, Maddogs 57

Everyone in Troy's starting lineup scored, with Wes Welker leading the way. Scott (4-3) should get the services of Steven Jackson back on Sunday which will help his playoff hopes. Meanwhile, Troy now sits alone atop the White Division at 5-2.

De-Pressers 94, Rampage 85

Hud's draft day gamble on Randy Moss continues to pay off in a big way. Milt got big games from the Giants D, Heath Miller & Jeff Garcia, but Peyton Manning was too much for MJD on MNF. Milt will be looking for his first W of the season in week 8, while Hud is tied with Hoffman at 6-1 atop the Orange Division.

Double Down 55, Horned Puffins 48

48. Great number in NASCAR (Jimmie Johnson), horseshit point total in the MVFFL. The Puffins officially suck at 3-4 ("How'd we ever win 3...it's a miracle." "It's a miracle.") Daniels moves to 4-3 and now pretty much owns me. Good times.

My guess is that Pietsch is concerned with his game this week against former MSLS (Midwest Sound and Light Show) cohort Randy Olson. The Hogs have some nice plays this week and Pietsch is missing Favre and Gates. Don't be shocked if the Hogs pull the upset.

Week 6 recap

What got into Hoffman? For those who may have missed it, the Buffet Boys set a new league record this week by dropping 176 points on Troy. Imagine scoring 80 points in a week and losing the game by 96 points! Wow. And I picked the Skins to win that game...ouch. Before we get to the games a quick congrats to the Colorado Rockies who haven't lost since JFK was President, or so it seems. Too bad the media is busy covering important topics like who's catering the Yankees post-game clubhouse spread next year to give the Rocks their due. Gotta love the media. It was nice to hear a little bit about the NASCAR crowd-phobia that some bigwigs in Washington have. If you missed it, check it out here. For what it's worth, I went to 'Dega, used the restrooms (as did Brooks) and we're both alive and well-thanks for asking.

Chris Cooley and Carson Palmer led the way for Daniels. Sorry to got back to the Rockies, but it's funny how things look different from the end of the regular season to the end of the playoffs. All I heard was how Matt Holliday is not the MVP. He plays in Coors Field, so his numbers don't mean anything. Jimmy Rollins blah blah blah he's the MVP. How's that selection looking now East Coasters? That's what I thought.

As I've learned-take the under with the Maddogs. That's no knock on Scott's team-especially considering he's playing without Steven Jackson. Big games from Eli Manning and Kevin Curtis did in the Creamers, who should be getting the services of Andre Johnson back soon.

Puffins 75, Owls 59
This league is a lot more fun for me when LaDainian Tomlinson has games like he did Sunday against the Raidas. Without him I've probably lost 10 more games over the past three years, which makes me realize that I'm not the smartest guy out there.

De-Pressers 99, Baggers 60
I laughed off Derek Anderson back in week 2. I thought Derek Anderson played hoops at UK and then a few teams in the NBA. I didn't realize that he's the pickup that got away. Another big game from him and Steve Smith led the De-Pressers to another W. At the rate Hud is going with trading picks, he can show up to the draft next year three hours late and not miss his selection.

Seriously. The Ravens D, Adrian Peterson & Tom Brady all went for 30+. Tony Gonzalez & T.J. Houshmanthatsalotofpointsah each went 20+. LJ added 13 and Kris Brown and Marquis Colston combined for 15. All of this while leaving 13 more points on his bench.

The Hogs aren't too bad. Another nice game from Braylon Edwards led the way past the winless Rampage.

In case you don't get The Sporting News I'll go ahead and break the news to you regarding the current issue...Fagan has an interview with...Alyssa Milano. No wonder he's no longer in this league-he's out interviewing Alyssa friggin Milano while I'm trying to find a free agent WR to play this week.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Hudnall made himself much better and could be poised for a nice postseason run.

Week 5 recap

I'm not trying to turn this into a NASCAR blog, but the race was pretty cool. I cannot begin to explain how big it all is. Without a doubt, one of the top 5 sporting events I've been to. Brooks was in hog heaven. He loved it.
As for the MVFFL, well, it appears there's gonna be a not-so-good team or two in the Playoffs. But I'm not complaining-I may be one of those two!

Nice of Philip Rivers to finally show up. Hey Phil, it's only week 5! What took so long? Also, a big thanks to Joseph Addai for not playing Sunday and allowing Kenton Keith go wild on the Bucs. Wes got big games from Ben Watson and Gus Frerotte, but that was it.

Antonio Gates led the way for Pietsch. I've never typed that line before. As for Hud, he's a stud RB away from at the top of the power rankings.

TQ gave Troy an good old fashion @ss-wuppin. This despite the fact that he got a total of 7 points from his QB and RBs. The Jason Witten deal is looking sweeter and sweeter for TQ.

Al's D and kicker outscored Milt's 40-33 and that was pretty much it. Milt has thrown in the towel and is looking for picks.

Big weekend for the Harlan boys (D & B, not B & C)---Saturday morning we're off to Talladega for Sunday's NASCAR Nextel Cup Race. I'm not too sure who's more pumped, me or Brooks. I know who's not-Molly. She's along for the ride-literally. She'll spend Sunday shopping while we're at the race, making it the rare occasion where all parties involved will be spending the day doing exactly what they want to do. Actually, she has set the goal of doing all her Christmas shopping on Sunday. All of it. That's a lofty goal. As for me and Brooks, we're just hoping not to get hit with anything wearing Jimmie Johnson gear in Dale Jr. country. It should be exciting. Week 4 recap

This just in-the Patriots head coach is a jerk. Cheating aside, how 'bout his decision to wait until just before kickoff to tell us that RB Laurence Maroney would not be playing against the Bengals? In another league I'm in I have Maroney and needed a good game to pull off the win. Had I known he wasn't going to be playing I could have played Derrick Ward on Sunday night and everything would be fine, but Billicheat decided to wait-like he didn't know he wasn't going to be playing. Whatever.

Pietsch did the doubling down on Daniels this week thanks in large part to a record-setting day by Brett Favre. Congrats go out to Daniels and POY Matt Holliday as he knocked of the Harlan Knights 6-4 to win the MVFBL this year. The Championship game, much like the National League, came down to the final day's games. Which reminds me...I need to remove Dontrelle Willis from my Christmas card list after failing to get through the 3rd inning of a game in which he was spotted seven runs. 7. Thanks for collecting me that W there D-Train. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

TQ darn near pulled off the upset, but POY candidate Randy Moss carried new daddy Hud to the W. I'm starting to get the feeling that maybe this is Hud's year.

Yea baby. Whatup now? The Puffs pulled the upset special in knocking off the C-Bags, thanks in large part to Santonio Holmes (finally) and in small part to LaDainian Tomlinson ('bout time), not to mention a nice no-show from Willie Parker, Marion Barber & all 3 of Al's WRs. Thanks fellas!

Hoffman's Chiefs (LJ & Gonzo) finally did something productive and Eric has a W to show for it. I'm starting to think that Milt made a deal with the devil that first year he was in the league.

Ronnie Brown did his best to prove that last week wasn't a fluke, Tony Romo has everyone wondering why they didn't draft him or take him as their free agent this year. It's also worth noting that Troy has 6, count that six, playable WRs on his roster. That is some serious depth there buddy.
